14 Huskies Garner All-Conference Accolades

March 2, 2017

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference revealed its list of All-Conference members on Thursday morning, 14 Huskies were honored with a combined total of 29 All-Conference accomplishments.

The All-Conference teams consist of swimmers and divers that finished in the top three of their respective events at The American Championships. 10 men and four women reached All-Conference status for the Huskies.

We were very pleased with the results of our conference meet and the recognition as evidenced by the earned All-Conference honors,” said head swimming coach Bob Goldberg. “Especially impressive were the performances of James Donlevy and Will Kearsey earning the top selections on the team.

Freshman Will Kearsey and senior co-captain James Donlevy led the way for the Huskies. Kearsey captured six All-Conference awards total, accomplishing the feats in the backstroke (two), relays (three) and IM (one) events.

Donlevy earned five All-Conference honors, reaching the podium in the freestyle (twice) and relays (three).

Emma Smith, Mark Hunter and Kyle Kimura also received multiple All-Conference honors.

Monica Marcello and Dan Kinney received All-Conference in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Alli Butera and Michelle Kalupski each earned an All-Conference nod in the 1-meter event. Spencer Beaulieu was the only Husky to earn All-Conference on the Platform.

“As you can imagine, to have had five of our divers make it to the awards podium made for plenty a thrill in Houston,” said head diving coach John Bransfield. “You put all the time in, you go through the paces and protocol trying to cover all the components, but at “game time” there is always that “x-factor”. Our divers did an outstanding job of being bold, and yet staying within themselves.”

“I was very proud of the whole group, including those that did not make the All-Conference Team. Having personal bests in a Championship contest puts you on a team in its own right,” said Bransfield.
