STORRS, Conn. - The Counseling Program for Intercollegiate Athletes at the University of Connecticut held its annual awards dinner on Thursday, April 15 at the Rome Ballroom on the Storrs campus. The event is held annually to recognize UConn's top student-athletes and is a celebration of National Student-Athlete Day.

The highest honor of the evening is the Donald Kinsman Awards, named after the former CPIA Director. They are presented annually to those student-athletes who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement during their time at UConn. The Kinsman winners this year were senior Phylicia George (Markham, Ont.) of the women's track and field team, who is a biological sciences/physiology and neurobiology major; and senior Steve Kustra (Huntington, Pa.) of the men's swimming and diving team, who is a biomedical engineering major and in the Honor's Program.

George opened her senior season at UConn by setting a new school record in the 55-meter hurdles, running at 8.32. She earned her first ever ECAC crown in March of 2010 in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.26 and with that run, ranked her 15th in the nation in that event. She also broke a 29-year old New England record with a 7.82 run in the 55-meter hurdles during the preliminary trials at the championship before earning the title.

George, who competed at the Canadian Olympic Trials in the 100-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash, is an NCAA qualifier (4x100) as well as an NCAA Regional qualifier.
