STORRS, Conn. – Three seniors have been named as team captains for the 2013-14 Connecticut men’s swimming team as announced by coach Bob Goldberg this week.
“We are very pleased with our men’s captains this year,” Goldberg said. “They represent a great cross section of the team, and they all bring great experience to the squad. All three have been great contributors over the years.”
Piper, from Naperville, Ill., placed in the top 16 in both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke as a freshman and made the BIG EAST Academic All-Star Team in 2011 and 2012. Last season as a junior, he was a member of the 200-yard medley relay team that broke the school record at the BIG EAST Championship with a time of 1:29.98.
Yacano has been a consistent performer for the Huskies in the butterfly event. Last season, the Glen Allen, Va. native qualified for the BIG EAST Championship in the 200-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly bonus and the 200-yard butterfly.
Coleman has improved every year since coming to UConn from Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y. He has been an asset in several events for the Huskies, and last year he swam at the BIG EAST Championship in the 200-yard IM bonus, 400-yard IM bonus and the 200-yard butterfly.
