Swimming and Diving Set to Open 2016-17 Season

Bob Goldberg and the Huskies begin the 2016-17 season on Saturday in Storrs

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are set to open the 2016-17 campaign on Saturday, Oct. 15 when they host Keene State and Bridgeport at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium in Storrs at 1 p.m.

The Huskies their fourth season in the American Athletic Conference and will look to improve on a fourth-place men’s finish and a sixth-place women’s finish. Rising women's seniors Margot Manning (Frederick, Md.) and Sophie Nothnagle (Victor, N.Y.) will serve as captains for the 2016-17 season. On the men's side, seniors James Donlevy (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and Kevin Konarski(Lindenhurst, N.Y.) will serve as team captains.

Both All-Conference selections as juniors, Manning and Nothnagle will captain a Husky squad that finished sixth in the conference with a total 457 points

In 2015, six Husky divers competed at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships in March, while junior diver Alexandra Butera (Havertown, Pa.) secured a spot in the 2016 NCAA Championships after placing sixth (586.80) in the three-meter final at Zone A Meet.

Eight women’s swimming and diving team members were named to the All-Conference team, while 11 men were honored by the league as All-Conference selections.
