Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Earn Victories in Season Debut

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut men's and women's swimming & diving team opened the season in outstanding fashion as the men's team defeated St. Bonaventure, 188.50-103.50 and the women's squad downed both the Bonnies (173-122) and Central Connecticut (188-101).

Freshman Georgia Apostolu put together an outstanding debut, earning wins in both the 100 Back (56.97) and the 200 Back (2:04.76). Senior Emma Smith took the top spot in the 1,000 Free (10:39.40) and Emily Parillo won an exciting 200 Fly race (2:05.58) by .22 seconds over CCSU's Valentina Gomez. In what was great day for the freshmen on both the men's and women's teams, Elizabeth Drab took top diving honors in the 1-Meter with a score of 236.40.

The men's side built an early lead and never looked back as junior Anthony Dell'Isola won the 1000 Free (10:01.45) by almost seven-seconds and newcomer Joshua Wroblewski won both the 200 Free with a time of 1:42.88 and the 500 Free (4:38.49).

Sophomore Will Kearsey was another dual winner for the Huskies, earning the top spot in the 100 Back (50.91) and the 200 Back (1:51.63).

Markus Hunter kept the line moving with a win in the 100 Breast (57.60) and the 200 Breast (2:05.60) while Kyle Kimura was another UConn dual winner with victories in the 200 Fly (1:54.69) and the 100 Free (47:05). The Huskies also dominated the 1-Meter diving competition, finishing in the top-3 spots. Senior Daniel Kinney won both the 1-Meter and the 3-Meter events.

Both teams are back in action when they matchup against Fordham on Saturday, October 21 at 1 p.m. All action takes place at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium in Storrs, Conn.
