STORRS, Conn. – Senior Dan Kinney and sophomore Will Kearsey of the University of Connecticut swimming and diving team garnered major American Athletic Conference weekly honors, as announced by the league on Wednesday.
Kearsey was tabbed the Men’s Swimmer of the Week after posting a first-place finish in four individual events and first in the 400 yard medley relay this past weekend vs. Central Connecticut State and St. Bonaventure. His 100 backstroke time Friday was 50.91 and on Saturday his time improved to 50.73, earning the conference best time so far this season. He competed in the 200 back Friday (1:51.63) and Saturday (1:51.79), finishing first in both competitions.
Kinney was pegged the Men’s Diver of the Week after notching three, first-place victories this past weekend. In Friday’s victory against Central Connecticut and St. Bonaventure, the sophomore turned in a league best mark in the 3-meter dive with a score of 351.70. Kinney wrapped up a strong weekend performance with a sweep in the 1-meter and 3-meter events, tallying 269.77 and 345.75 points, respectively, in the team’s win against Fordham on Saturday, Oct. 21.
UConn is back in action on Friday, November 3 when the team travels down I-91 to take on Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven. The meet begins at 5 p.m.
