STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men’s swimming and diving team jumps back into competition Saturday, Oct. 29 when they host Brown at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium in Storrs at 1 p.m.
The Huskies opened the season with a dual meet victory against the University of Bridgeport (150:50 - 117.50) and Keene State (190.00 - 91.00).
Freshmen Will Kearsey (Wheathampstead, England) stormed onto the scene with a pair of first-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (49.96) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:50.51). In his first meet at UConn, Kearsey also contributed to a win in the 200-yard medley relay (1:34.40) with sophomores Mark Hunter (Pietermaritzburg, South Africa), Luke Martin (Richmond, Va.) and junior Daniel Krensta (Brookfield, Conn.).
On the diving side, senior diver Spencer Beaulieu (Portland, Conn.) and freshmen Kyle Kennedy (Raynham, Mass.) placed first and second, respectively, in both the 1-meter and the 3-meter diving events. Beaulieu recorded scores of 258.22 in the one-meter and 257.03 in the three-meter. Kennedy logged a 251.40 in the one-meter and 245.77 in the three-meter.
The Huskies shift their focus to a meet with the Brown Bears this weekend, a challenge that Head Coach Bob Goldberg is excited to see.
“Brown has been one of the best teams in the region,” said Goldberg. “This will be our first real challenge of the season. Our first meet was a tune up and now we are looking forward to a challenging test, I’m excited to see how the team does.”
