STORRS, Conn. - University of Connecticut junior swimmer Jeff Magin (Brookfield, Conn.) has earned American Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week honors, as announced by the league on Tuesday night.
Magin, who was named to the All-Conference Team last year as a sophomore, tallied eight total wins this past weekend, capturing first in four races each against Villanova (Oct. 24) and Fordham (Oct. 25). In UConn's win against the Wildcats, Magin swam to a first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:34.04), 100-yard backstroke (51.99) and 200-yard backstroke (1:53.91). The Connecticut junior was also part of the Husky team that won the 200-yard freestyle (Exhibition only) with a time of 1:25.60.
Magin was just as productive against the Rams on Saturday, sweeping the backstroke events after winning the 100-yard backstroke (51.70) and 200-yard backstroke (1:53.60.) His final two victories of the weekend came in the 200-yard medley relay (1:34.07) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (Exhibition only), where the Huskies topped all teams after recording a time of 3:07.13.
Magin and UConn picked up wins in both meets over the weekend to begin their regular season with a 2-0 start. The Huskies, who return to action at 12 p.m. this Saturday with the Alumni Homecoming Meet at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium, won all six of their dual meets last season.
