Connecticut junior swimmer Lachezar Shumkov won two events in UConn's meet against Penn.

PROVIDENCE, R. I. – University of Connecticut junior swimmer Lachezar Shumkov has been named the American Athletic Conference Male Swimmer of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon.
Shumkov (Sofia, Bulgaria) has been one of UConn’s most consistent swimmers this season, winning at least one event in Connecticut’s three meets this year. Against Pennsylvania on November 9th, he won both breaststroke events, as he finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 57.08, while in the 200-yard breaststroke he took home first place honors after swimming the event in 2:03.66.
In the 200-yard medley relay against Penn, Shumkov helped UConn finish second, swimming the second leg of the race with a very impressive split of 25.78.
This past summer, Shumkov represented UConn well at the Bulgarian Championships, as he won four events. He took home first place in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 29.16 and won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:03.68. In the 200-yard breaststroke, he captured first place with a time of 2:19.28, and he then finished the championship off winning the 200-yard individual medley in 2:11.73.
With their 153-147 win over Pennsylvania, the Huskies improved to 3-0 on the season and this week they head to Blacksburg, Virginia to participate in the Virginia Tech Invitational. The meet will take place November 21-23, with races happening all throughout each day.
