Men's and Women's Swimming Enter Final Day Of Terrapin Cup Competition

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (November 22, 2008) -- The University of Connecticut men's and women's swimming teams enter the final day of competition on Saturday at the Terrapin Cup with the men's team in second place and the women's team in fourth place. The UConn men have 569 points behind North Carolina State with 650 while the UConn women's team has 379.5 points and host Maryland is the leader with 379.5.

Freshman Caitlin Gallagher (Lawrence, Kansas) won the 400-yard IM on Friday night after taking home the 200-yard IM on Thursday night.

Senior Erin McLaughlin (Woodbridge, Conn.) made her first National Short Course Championship cut as she posted a 57.24 second time in the 100-yard backstroke. Senior Cassie Peterson (White Fish Bay, Wisc.) also qualified for the National Short Courses with a 57.20 second time in the 100-back.

For the men's team, Friday was highlighted by senior Adrian Astiz (Rockville, Md.) winning the 100-yard butterfly.
