Huskies Fall Short at Villanova, 4-0

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The UConn men's tennis team dropped their second-straight match on the weekend, falling at Villanova, 4-0, Saturday night.  The match was contested in clinch format as the Huskies fall to 2-2 on the year.

"In the doubles, we had opportunities at the two and three spots but couldn’t convert," stated associate head coach Reinaldo Valor. "We jumped out to a three to zero lead at both but feel short."

UConn's Jack McLister (Leesburg, Va.) and Hank Hill (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) fell to Stefan Suarez and Mike Czlonka at No. 3, 6-4.  The Wildcats clinched the point at No. 1 where Will Elmore and Tommy Mulfur stopped Justin Warren (Durham, N.C.) and Brady Flanagan (Overland Park, Kans.), 6-3. At No. 2, Yili Zheng (Shanghai, China) and Jonathan Edwards (Isle of Palm, S.C.) were deadlocked at 5-5 with Thomas Dodson and Tyler Roth when the point was clinched.

In singles, Villanova clinched the match by winning at No. 1, 3 and 4.  Suarez topped Zheng at No. 1, 6-4 and 6-1.  Dodson beat Flanagn at No. 3, 6-3 and 6-2 and Dylan Flanagan won over McLister at No. 4, 6-1 and 6-2.

The Huskies are next in action on Saturday, February 3 hosting Siena at the East Hartford Tennis Club.
