HARRISON, N.Y. - The UConn men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Fordham University Saturday night at the Life Time Athletic Center in Harrison, N.Y. The Huskies dropped to 3-5 with the loss.
"The guys had opportunities to win the doubles point, winning at three doubles and was up 4-1 at #2," stated associate head coach Reinaldo Valor. "We keep putting ourselves in a position to win but have not been able to convert. Fordham played a great match but this one hurts. We need one of these matches to go our way to make our breakthrough."
THe Huskies picked-up a doubles win by juniors Hank Hill (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) and Jack McLister (Leesburg, Va.), posting a 7-5 win over Max Green and Allen Thomas.
In singles play, senior Jonathan Edwards (Isle of Palms, S.C.) won his No. 5 match over Thomas, 6-4 and 6-3.
UConn dropped three singles matches that went three sets. At No. 2, Hill fell to Green, 6-4, 3-6 and 6-3. At No. 4, Finn Kemper beat junior Justin Warren (Durham, N.C.), 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 and at No. 6, John Michael Holtmann (Coral Gables, Fla.) lost to Alex Makatsaria, 1-6, 6-2 and 6-3.
The Huskies are next in action on Friday, March 2nd when they head to instate rival Fairfield.
