WEST POINT, N.Y. - Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.) won the University of Connecticut men's tennis team's lone point of its 6-1 loss to Stony Brook on Saturday. Cook earned a two-set victory at No. 6 singles to deny the Seawolves a sweep at the Lictenberg Tennis Center.
Reigning BIG EAST Tennis Player of the Week Andrew Marcus (Potomac, Md.) paired with Scott Warden (Boardman, Ohio) to win their doubles match at No. 2. Although Stony Brook won the doubles point with wins at first and third.
At No. 1, Joe Goldstein (Tucson, Ariz.) dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision while Marcus was unable to continue his success in singles play, losing 6-2, 6-2 from the second spot. Joey Michaels (Rochester Hills, Mich.) lost a close match to Epstein at No. 3 singles (7-6, 7-5).
Warden lost his match 6-4, 7-6 in fourth singles and fellow rookie Dave Adams (Andover, Mass.) was defeated 6-3, 6-2.
The men's tennis team continues the season on the road with a 5 p.m. match at Brown on Saturday, Feb. 28.
