EAST HARTFORD, Conn. - The UConn men's tennis team picked-up their second win of the spring on Friday night, taking down Southern New Hampshire University, 6-1, at the East Hartford Tennis Club. The Huskies improve to 3-5 overall in dual match play this season.
UConn swept through the doubles matches to take the opening point of the night. The senior tandem of Parker Goldstein (Marietta, Ga.) and Christopher Toner (South Hamilton, Mass.) posted a 6-1 win over the brother team of Miguel and Ricardo Marreiros at No. 1. At No. 3, the team of Jack McLister (Leesburg, Va.) and freshman Brady Flanagan (Overland Park, Kans.) were 6-2 winners over Tiago Fernandes and Jeremy Reichentahl.
At No. 2 doubles, the sophomore team of Hank Hill (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) and Justin Warren (Durham, N.C.) posted their team-leading seventh win in doubles beating Bas van Biezen and Xavier Aubron, 6-4.
In singles play, UConn took five of the six matches. Junior Jonathan Edwards (Isle of Palms, S.C.) continued his hot play, winning his fifth-straight match while improving to 7-2 overall and 4-0 at No. 6 singles. Edwards defeated Reichental, 6-0 and 7-6.
Both Warren and Hill finished as double winners on Friday, winning at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Warren bested Aubron at No. 4, 6-3 and 6-3, while Hill won at No. 5 over van Biezen, 6-4 and 6-3. Senior Arnaud Valentin (Ridgefield, Conn.) won his No. 2 singles match with Miguel Marreiros, 6-4 and 6-2. Both Valentin and Warren improved to a team-best 9-6 on the season. Goldstein took his No. 2 match with Ricardo Marreiros, 6-2 and 6-0.
The Huskies will take to the road and head to Brown University for a Saturday night match-up with the Bears.
