EAST HARTFORD, Conn. - The UConn men's tennis team picked-up their second-straight win and third in their last four matches with a 7-0 win over Siena on Saturday night. The Huskies improved to 5-6 overall thanks to their first 7-0 sweep win on the season.
"Team did a great job tonight to earn the victory," stated head coach Michael Louis. "I'm very happy for our guys and this team to be able to pull together, compete hard, and earn these wins these past two home matches."
The Huskies opened the night with a clean sweep of all three doubles matches. At No. 1 the team of senior Christopher Toner (South Hamilton, Mass.) and Parker Goldstein (Marietta, Ga.) set the tone with a 6-1 win over Cameron Kirkwood and Alessandro.
At No. 2, the sophomore team of Justin Warren (Durham, N.C.) and Hank Hill (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) posted a 6-2 win over Geovanny Mendoza and Matt Bellino. UConn made it a clean sweep with a 6-1 win at No. 3 by sophomore Jack McLister (Leesburg, Va.) and freshman Brady Flanagan (Overland Park, Kans.).
Toner, Hill, Warren and McLister were all double winners on the night with victories in singles. Toner won at No. 1 over Kirkwood, 6-4 and 6-2. At No. 2, senior Arnaud Valentin (Ridgefield, Conn.) win 6-4 and 6-1 over Alessandro Saglia.
Warren and Hill won back-to-back at No. 3 and No. 4. Warren beat Mendoza, 6-2 and 6-2 at No. 3 while Hill was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at No. 4 over Bellino. McLister was a winner at No.6, 6-1 and 6-2 over Giannakitisidis. Junior Jonathan Edwards (Isle of Palms, S.C.) finished the sweep with a 6-0 and 6-4 win at No. 5 over Nick Boening.
The Huskies will next be in action with a spring break trip to Florida to face Florida Atlantic, George Washington and Florida Tech.
