STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men's tennis team came up short of their first win this spring, falling at Brown University, 5-2, Friday afternoon. The Huskies fall to 3-7 in dual match play and have dropped five-straight matches this spring.
UConn picked up a pair of singles wins from junior Wayne Harrell (East Windsor, Conn.) and sophomore Andrew Ginzberg (Woodbridge, Conn.). Harrell won a three-set battle with Brandon Burke at #2 after dropping the first set. Burke posted a 6-4 win in the open set but Harrell battled back for a 7-6 win in the second and an 11-9 tiebreaker in the third to take the point. Harrell is now 2-1 this spring and improved to 11-6 this season.
At #6 singles, Ginzberg also fought his way to a three-set victory. Ginzberg won the first set over David Neff, 6-4, but dropped the second set 6-3. He answered with a 10-6 win in the third set tiebreak for his first victory of the spring season.
The Huskies return to the courts on their annual spring break trip. UConn will head to Puerto Rico for a pair of matches against Colgate and Puerto Rico-Mayaguez on March 17th and 18th.
