PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Feb. 28, 2009) - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team fell to Ivy League opponent Brown on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies' 7-0 loss to the Bears at Pizzitola Indoor Tennis Courts was a part of 1-1 weekend for Brown.
UConn started the match down by one point after being swept in doubles play for the second-consecutive match this spring Joe Goldstein (Tucson, Ariz.) and Ben Schueler (Arlington, Mass.) were held without a single point in first doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Scott Warden (Boardman, Ohio) and Andrew Marcus (Potomac, Md.) lost an 8-4 decision. Joey Michaels (Rochester Hills, Mich.) and Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.) came the closest as any Husky duo on the court, losing 8-7 in the final doubles match.
Goldstein lost in the No. 1 spot, 6-4, 6-0 while Marcus fell in two identical sets of 6-1 in second singles. Michaels took his opponent to a tiebreaker in the second set after dropping the first set 6-2 from the third singles.
Dave Adams (Andover, Mass.) challenged his Brown opponent from fifth singles before falling 6-4, 6-2. In sixth singles, Cook lost his match 6-1, 6-0.
Men's tennis takes the season to spring break in Florida with matches scheduled against South Dakota State, Monmouth and Robert Morris from March 9-12.
