RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The UConn men's tennis team opened a their annual spring break trip on Sunday afternoon falling at UC Riverside, 5-2. The Huskies are in California for the week and will play four matches.
The Huskies jumped out to a fast start by battling their way to the opening doubles point. After dropping the #3 doubles match, UConn stormed back to win at the top two spots to grab an opening 1-0 lead.
R-Senior Jacob Spreyer (Denver, Colo.) and junior Christopher Toner (South Hamilton, Mass.) started the rally with a 6-2 win at #1 over Jack Felich and Julian Ruffin. The point was clinched at #2 where senior Zac McEntee (Yorba Linda, Calif.) teamed to beat Kyle McCann and Marcus Vizcarra, 7-6.
UC Riverside rebounded in singles play and took five of the six matches to win 5-2. The Huskies lone victory came at #5 where freshman Justin Warren (Durham, N.C.) posted a 7-6 (3) and 7-6 (4) win over Calvin Ngo.
The Huskies will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they take on Azusa Pacific.
