STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men's tennis team wrapped-up their annual Spring Break trip with their third-straight victory, beating the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras, 7-0, Tuesday afternoon. The Huskies went a perfect 3-0 on the trip to Puerto Rico adding wins over Nichols College and Colgate to Tuesday's victory. The Huskies are now 6-7 in dual match play this season.
The duo of senior Ryan Carr (Madison, Conn.) and freshman Parker Goldstein (Marietta, Ga.) finished their time in Puerto Rico with 3-0 singles records. Carr won with #2 singles match on Monday over C. Maymi, 6-1 and 6-1 to grab his eighth singles victory of the season. Goldstein played his first match of the season at #3 and posted a 6-0 and 6-1 win over C. Espada.
Junior Wayne Harrell (East Windsor, Conn.) picked-up his team-leading 13th victory of the season and improved to 7-3 playing at #1 with a 6-1 and 6-2 win over Diego Orro. Sophomore Andrew Ginzberg (Woodbridge, Conn.) recorded his ninth singles victory and remained a perfect 3-0 when playing at #4 with a 6-1 and 6-2 win over Carlos Pirallo.
In doubles play, freshman Christopher Toner (South Hamilton, Mass.) and junior Jacob Spreyer (Denver, Colo.) teamed up for an 8-0 win over Espada and Pirallo to rais their record to 12-8 on the year. Toner picked up his 14th doubles victory of the season, tying him with Carr and Harrell for the team lead.
Carr and Harrell earned an 8-3 win at #1 over Orro and Maymi and Palmer and Goldstein beat Ruiz and Franco Emanuelli, 8-2, at #3.
The Huskies return home to play host to Temple in their only American Athletic Conference dual match of the season on Saturday, March 29th.
