PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team lost a tightly contested match at Brown on Saturday. Junior Andrew Marcus (Potomac, Md.) with a win at No. 1 singles provided a highlight in the Huskies' 5-2 loss to the Bears.
"The team showed great effort today against a very tough Ivy League opponent," head coach Glenn Marshall said. "Each match was heavily contested and we fought them all the way to the end."
Marcus defeated Kendrick Au in two sets, 6-4, 6-3 for his fifth victory from the top singles spot this year. Senior Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.) was also victorious in a two-set decision from the sixth spot. Cook is undefeated in No. 6 singles this season, boasting a 4-0 record.
Sophomore Jai Yoon (Bayside, N.Y.) fell in one of two matches decided 6-3, 6-4 on the day. Yoon lost to Mike Hill at No. 2 singles, while sophomore Dave Adams (Andover, Mass.) lost by an identical margin at No. 5 singles.
Yoon and Adams combined for the Huskies lone win in doubles, denying the Bears a sweep. Adams and Yoon defeated their Brown opponent 8-6 in second doubles.
UConn (5-6-1, 2-5) continues the season on Friday, March 26 when the team travels to take on the Terriers of Boston University at 3 p.m.
