STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men's tennis team fell to Temple University 5-1 Saturday afternoon at the Manchester Raquet Club. The Huskies fell to 6-8 and dropped their only match with an Amercian Athletic Conference opponent on their schedule this spring.
The Huskies got a great start to the day taking the doubles point with wins at #1 and #2 doubles. The team of junior Wayne Harrell (East Windsor, Conn.) and senior Ryan Carr (Madison, Conn.) defeated Hernan Vasconez and Filip Stipcic, 8-5. Junior Jacob Spreyer (Denver, Colo.) and freshman Christopher Toner (South Hamilton, Mass.) picked up an 8-3 victory over Nicolas Paulus and Hicham Belkssir at #2 to deliver UConn a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
The Owls rebounded and swept singles action, winning five matches with the Sprayer and Kristian Marquart #2 match going unfinished. Toner lost a three-set battle at #4 to Stipcic, winning the first set 6-3 before falling 6-3 and 1-0 in a tiebreak.
UConn is at home on campus Wednesday afternoon when they play host to the Bryant Bulldogs of the Northeast Conference. Play will start at 3:30 pm on the University of Connecticut Tennis Courts.
