FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Following the rainout at Marist, the University of Connecticut men's tennis team was eager to get back into action on Thursday at Fairfield. The Huskies found themselves on the bitter end of a 4-3 match against the Stags.
UConn came back to win the doubles point thanks to the efforts of Andrew Marcus (Potomac, Md.) and Scott Warden (Boardman, Ohio) at No. 2 doubles with an 8-6 victory. Joe Goldstein (Tucson, Ariz.) and Ben Schueler (Arlington, Mass.) battled through at first singles to win 9-7.
There were three singles matches that took three sets to decision and the Huskies lone victory in those battles happened at No. 5 with Dave Adams (Andover, Mass.) winning. Joey Michaels (Rochester Hills, Mich.) and Goldstein lost at first and third singles, respectively. Marcus translated his early doubles success into a win at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-4.
"This match was a dogfight today," head coach Glenn Marshall said. "We were down in the doubles and came back to get the point. There were three matches that went to three sets and unfortunately we were only able to win one of them today."
The Huskies are idle until April 9 when they host Boston University.
