STORRS, Conn. - In its third-straight non-conference match, the University of Connecticut men's tennis team won 6-1 over Boston University on Thursday. The Huskies dropped just two matches to the visiting Terriers at the University of Connecticut Tennis Courts.
Wins at second and third doubles secured the first point of the day as UConn fell in the first match 8-5. Andrew Marcus (Potomac, Md.) and Scott Warden (Boardman, Ohio) were the most dominant duo with an 8-1 victory at No. 2. Joey Michaels (Rochester Hills, Mich.) and Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.) were able to win their battle with an 8-6 decision.
Goldstein did win his No. 1 singles match 6-2, 7-6 over Jeff Chudacoff. Marcus and Warden continued to find success on the court with wins in their respective singles matches from the second and fourth spots.
Dave Adams (Andover, Mass.) and Cook were the victors of identical two-set decisions at No. 5 and 6, respectively. Each Connecticut player won their matches by 6-1, 6-4 scores.
Three-set decisions continued to be a problem for Connecticut tennis with Michaels falling in the lone three-set battle of the day. In third singles after dropping the first, Michaels forced a decisive third set, falling 10-7 in the final to Charles Weinstein.
"This was a good win against a very solid team," said head coach Glenn Marshall. "We came out with a lot of intensity, which was great to see today. The team is pumped for the big match with Villanova this Saturday."
The Huskies host their BIG EAST competitor, the Wildcats at Noon on Saturday. Both the men's and women's tennis teams will be in action.
