STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 victory over St. Francis (Pa.) on Sunday afternoon in non-conference tennis action in Storrs, Conn.
The Huskies swept doubles play with strong outings all around. In No. 1 doubles, Andrew Marcus and Scott Warden continued their dominating season with an 8-1 win over St. Francis' Elahn Pogue and Nathaniel Fleming. Ricardo Cardona and Wei Lin won five straight games to finish their match with an 8-3 victory in No. 3 doubles and in No. 2 action, Jai Yoon and Dave Adams finished the UConn sweep of doubles play with an 8-4 win over Stephen Kowonski and Andres Rosa.
In singles action, Marcus won in the No. 1 spot with smart play. He defeated Pogue 6-3, 6-1. Freshman Teddy Margules took care of business with big first serves to go on and win No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Kirby Mendes.
Yoon won a great first set with stellar returns and then held onto a tighter second set to eventually win No. 3 singles over Fleming 6-1, 7-5. Ryan Carr fell in No. 4 singles 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 despite his tough battling effort.
Warden won No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Rosa, while Lin won in the No. 5 spot with a 6-4, 6-3 edging of St. Francis' Youlian Natchev.
UConn will return to action on Tuesday, April 12 with a 3:00 p.m. match against Boston College in Storrs, Conn.
