WASHINGTON, D.C. - An early advantage thanks to the steady doubles play of the University of Connecticut men's tennis was not enough to surpass Georgetown at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex on Saturday. Sophomore Scott Warden (Boardman, Ohio) and senior Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.) won in both doubles and singles to aid the Huskies' effort against the Hoyas.
Junior Andrew Marcus (Potomac, Md.) and Warden took down Andrew Bruhn and Tim Walsh in commanding fashion to start doubles play in the Huskies second BIG EAST match of the season.
Sophomores Jai Yoon (Bayside, N.Y.) and Dave Adams (Andover, Mass.) won their second doubles battle to secure the point for the Huskies. Yoon and Adams improve to 6-3 this spring with the 8-4 victory.
Warden wore down Charlie Caris at No. 3 singles for his sixth victory from that spot this spring. After trailing early, Warden came back to win the three-set decision. Cook continued his commanding play at No. 6 with a three-set victory over Tim Walsh. Cook is now 7-1 from the sixth position this spring.
The Huskies, now 4-7 this spring with a 0-2 BIG EAST record, resume their trek on the road with an 11 a.m. match at Villanova on Sunday.
