FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The men's tennis team opened the fall season at the Fairfield Doubles Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 11 on the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.
The Huskies were 3-0 in the Section A final standings of the Pool #2 as junior Scott Warden (Boardman, Ohio) and freshman Teddy Margules defeated Hartford's Marco Neeves and Eric Floum 8-2 followed by Quinnipiac's Warden and Francis (8-4) and St. Peter's Sergey Igel and Huisman (8-5).
The duo fell short in the semifinals, losing to Queen's David Berstein and Wulff 8-5.
Also competing in flight two for the Huskies were junior Ricardo Cardona (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and sophomore Wei Lin (Bayside, N.Y.). The two Huskies ended the afternoon 1-2 with an 8-4 win over Fairfield.
In Pool#1, the duo of senior Andrew Marcus (Potomac, Md.) and Dave Adams (Andover, Mass.) went 2-1 in the Section B final standings but fell in the semifinals by a score of 8-6 to Fairfield's Joe Michalsin and Erik Kremhellar, a duo that went on to win the first flight.
In the third pool, UConn's Matt Burns (Middletown, N.Y.) and Nic Visinski (Fairfield, Conn.) went 3-0 in the Section A round robin before falling to St. Peter's Alex Frakes and Luccas Coutinho in the pool's semifinal match-up. The final score of 8-7 (3).
The fall season continues for the UConn men's tennis team with a 3:00 p.m. match against Hartford on Wednesday, Sept. 15.
