STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team defeated Hartford 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon in Storrs, Conn in their first dual match of the season.
The victory marks the second straight year in which the Huskies have opened the fall season with a win over the Hawks.
Senior Andrew Marcus (Potomac, Md.) led the way for UConn as he defeated Hartford's Josh Isaacson in a pair of 6-2 sets, while he and junior Scott Warden (Boardman, Ohio) won their No. 1 doubles match 8-4. Warden also won his match against Aneil Bhalla 6-2, 5-7 and 10-1.
Wei Lin (Bayside, N.Y.) blanked Hartford's Eric Floum in a pair of 6-0 sets in his singles' match to add to the Huskies' dominance.
Freshman Ryan Carr defeated Ed Ureta 7-5 and 6-1 in his first career singles match at UConn. He joined Ricardo Cardona (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) in No. 3 doubles as they downed Hartford 8-2 for the victory.
"The boys played well today to get the win in our first dual match of the season," said Director of Tennis Glenn Marshall. "I was pleased with the effort, as we fought through some close matches and sets today. Freshman Ryan Carr recorded his first collegiate wins in singles and doubles."
The Huskies return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 22 in Loudonville, N.Y. as they will face Siena beginning at 3:00 p.m.
