HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team swept Hartford in its first match of the fall season on Tuesday. This is the second-consecutive time that the Huskies have swept the Hawks.
Junior Andrew Marcus (Potomac, Md.) and sophomore Scott Warden (Boardman, Ohio) earned an 8-1 decision from the No. 1 doubles spot, leading the Huskies to sweep doubles play at Hartford. Sophomores Jai Yoon (Bayside, N.Y.) and Dave Adams (Andover, Mass.) won an 8-3 match from the second spot while senior Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.) and sophomore Matt Burns (Middletown, N.Y.) claimed an 8-4 victory over the Hawks.
In singles, Yoon and Adams shutout their opponents in the first set of their respective matches at No. 4 and No. 5. Yoon went on to win the second set 6-3 while Adams defeated Hartford's Edgardo Ureta, 6-2.
At No. 6, sophomore Ricardo Cardona (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) took down Aaron Kooden in a pair of 6-2 sets. Warden battled to a two-set victory over Marco Neves in third singles, 7-5, 6-1.
Senior Joe Goldstein (Tucson, Ariz.) won 6-1, 6-4 from the No. 2 spot while Marcus surpassed Aneil Bhalla, 6-1, 6-2 from No. 1.
Connecticut (1-0) resumes plays on Wednesday at the University of Connecticut Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m. against Siena.
