STORRS, Conn - For the second-consecutive match of the fall season, the University of Connecticut men's tennis team swept its opponent on Wednesday. The Huskies won 7-0 against Siena at the University of Connecticut Tennis Courts. Sophomore Jai Yoon (Bayside, N.Y.) defeated his opponent in straight 6-0 sets to capture his second-consecutive singles victory at No. 4.
After shutting out Kevin Gioia to start things off in the first set, sophomore Scott Warden (Boardman, Ohio) battled to a 7-5 victory to win in third singles. Senior Joe Goldstein (Tucson, Ariz.) was victorious over Siena's Dylan Roberts from the No. 2 spot with a 6-0, 6-1 win.
Junior Andrew Marcus (Potomac, Md.) once again earned the decision at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Saint's Mike Amico. Sophomore Dave Adams (Andover, Mass.) earned his win in fifth singles with a pair of 6-4 sets against Jay Godbole.
Rounding out singles play, senior Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.) earned his first win of the fall season with a 6-0, 6-2 decision at No. 6.
The Huskies began with another solid showing in doubles play as Marcus and Warden won in the closest doubles match of the afternoon with an 8-5 victory from the top spot. Goldstein paired with freshman Wei Lin (Bayside, N.Y.) to win an 8-3 match against their Siena counterparts at No. 3.
Matt Burns (Middletown, N.Y.) and Cardona defeated Siena's Godbole and Shawn Conroy in third doubles with an 8-2 victory.
UConn (2-0) travels to Providence, R.I. this weekend to compete at the Brown Invitational Sept. 18-20.
