UConn Earns First Win of Season, 6-1, at Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The UConn men's tennis team opened up the dual match portion of their fall schedule on Wednesday with a 6-1 win at the University of Hartford.  After competing in a pair of tournaments to open their season, the Huskies win their first of four dual matches they will play this fall.

Senior Jacob Spreyer (Denver, Colo.) led the way earning victories at #1 singles and #1 doubles.  Spreyer teamed with sophomore Christopher Toner (South Hamilton, Mass.) to beat Hartford's Ryan Lugtu and Nicholas Sharwarko, 8-4.  The Huskies clinched the doubles point thanks to an 8-0 win at #3 doubles by sophomore Parker Goldstein (Marietta, Ga.) and freshman Jonathan Edwards (Isle of Palms, S.C.) over Morgan White and Luis Montes.

Spreyer led the Huskies to five out of six singles wins with a 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) win over Lugtu.  Toner posted a 6-3 and 6-4 win over William Drumwright at #2 and Goldstein earned a three-set win at #3 over Alexander Romaine.  Goldstein won the first set 6-1, dropped the second 6-3 but answered with a 6-0 third set for the win.

Edwards continued his strong start to his rookie season, winning at #5 singles, 6-2 and 6-3 over White.  Junior Zac McEntee (Yorba Linda, Calif.) posted a three-set win at #6 over Daniel Rombola.  McEntee won the first set 6-3, dropped the second 6-4 and won the match in a 10-6 tie-break.

The Huskies are back on the court this Friday, September 19th when they travle to Siena for a dual match.
