STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team hosted Siena in the first dual match of the season and came away with a 6-1 team victory. The Huskies took two of three doubles matches and five of six singles contests. Senior Scott Warden won in convincing fashion at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
Warden combined with sophomore Teddy Margules to dispatch Peter Collins and Alex Burbine of Siena, 8-3. They were joined in the winning ways by senior Jai Yoon junior Wei Lin after their 8-1 victory over Dylan Roberts and Jarret Siwiec.
Warden opened the singles play with his 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 1 and was followed likewise by Lin, Surovic, Spreyer and Margules. Lin took his No. 3 singles match against Alex Burbine with a 6-4, 6-0 result while Surovic completed his victory, going 6-3, 6-2 over Jarret Siwiec. Spreyer made short work of Darren Reisch, 6-1, 6-1. Margules came back from a set down and won his match in dramatic fashion in a super tiebreaker, 11-9, over Eric Sumanaru.
Yoon suffered the only singles defeat for Connecticut, falling in a tight match to Peter Collins, 7-5, 6-3.
UConn will host the annual UConn Invitational in Storrs beginning on Friday, September 23. The Huskies will welcome, Boston University, Bryant, Hartford, Sacred Heart and Quinnipiac to campus for the tournament.
