STORRS, Conn. - Sophomore Nic Visinski (Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman Wei Lin (Bayside, N.Y.) of the University of Connecticut men's tennis team won the C Singles Bracket of the UConn Invitational. Visinski and Lin defeated a duo from Fairfield on Saturday at the University of Connecticut Tennis Courts.
The UConn pair advanced to the final match with wins over Bucknell after winning their first match against Holy Cross on Friday.
Goldstein and Warden fell to the eventual second place team from Bucknell in the A Doubles Flight while Yoon and Adams suffered the same fate in the B Flight.
In singles, sophomore Jai Yoon (Bayside, N.Y.) defeated Brian Mikkelson in straight-sets with a pair of 7-5 decisions to win his first match before falling to Juan-Martin Parades of Bryant.
Parades earned his spot in the semifinal after defeating senior Joe Goldstein (Tucson, Ariz.) in straight sets 6-4, 6-0. Sophomore Scott Warden (Boardman, Ohio) fell to Matt Wierzel in a three set match (3-6, 6-4, 13-11) ending his run in the A Singles Bracket.
Junior Andrew Marcus (Potomac, Md.) lost his quarterfinal match to Bryant's Nicolai Hill in the B Singles Bracket.
In the C Singles Bracket, senior Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.) advanced to the semifinal match against Quinnipiac's Charlie Feldman after winning a pair of two-set matches. Cook first defeated Mike Lessing from Fairfield before winning a 6-0, 6-2 match over Bryant's Andres Orobitg. Cook fell to Feldman in three sets.
The Huskies head to the Bucknell Invitational next weekend in Lewisburg, Pa. to compete Oct. 2-4.
