HAMDEN, Conn. - Scott Warden and Andrew Marcus won the A-Doubles Flight for the UConn men's tennis team after defeating Villanova's Trenton Alenik and Thomas O'Brien 9-7 in their final match at the Quinnipiac Invitational this weekend. Wei Lin and Ricardo Cardona won the B-Doubles Flight by defeating Sacred Heart's Nick Mazzarese and Jinal Shah 8-6.
Seven members of the program will compete in semifinal action of the singles' competition on Sunday as Marcus and Warden will lead the way after they battled into the semifinals of the A-flight after wins on Saturday.
Marcus came from behind to defeat Quinnipiac's Brian Mikkelson 4-6, 7-5, 10-6 to advance into the semifinals on Sunday. He will take on St. Peter's Sergey Igel. On the other side of the bracket, Warden will play Fairfield's Dan Sauter as Warden defeated SHU's Chris Ujkic 6-3, 3-6, 10-6.
In B singles, freshman Ryan Carr downed Quinnipiac's Brett Francis in a pair of 6-2 sets to advance to the semifinals as he will take on Fairfield's Dennis Zlobinsky on Sunday morning. Lin defeated Edgardo Ureta from Hartford 6-2 and 6-1 to advance to his semifinal match against Bjorn Merinder of Fairfield, which will take place Sunday morning as well.
In D singles, three Huskies will compete on Sunday in semifinal action as Teddy Margules will face teammate Nic Visinski. Margules downed Hartford's Conner Masciotra to advance to the final day of the invitational, while Visinki defeated Quinnipiac's Dillon Kraus 6-2, 6-1.
Matt Burns will take on Fairfield's R.J. Mirabile on Sunday after he won his quarterfinal match 6-3, 6-1 on Saturday against Fairfield's Reece Breault.
