NEW HAVEN, Conn. - UConn junior Christopher Toner (South Hamilton, Mass.) won both of his qualifying matches on Thursday and advanced into the main draw at the ITA Northeast Regional Championship at Yale University. Toner will join senior teammate Jacob Spreyer (Denver, Colo.) in the main singles draw starting play on Friday.
Toner dispatched Fairfield's Rodgers in the first round of qualifying, winning 6-4 and 6-4. He earned his way into the main draw by winning his second match in the afternoon, defeating Drexel's Orhon 6-3 and 7-5.
The duo of Spreyer and Toner will also play doubles at the event, with play in the main doubles draw starting Friday morning.
Spreyer will take the court for his opening singles match with Raphael Termat of Stony Brook at 12 noon. Toner will take on Blaine Willenborg of Penn at 2:30 pm.
