Men's Tennis Shuts Out Ithaca, 7-0

HILTON HEAD, S.C. (March 8) -- The University of Connecticut men’s tennis team rolled to a 7-0 shutout victory over Ithaca College on Wednesday afternoon in Hilton Head, S.C. to wrap up its annual spring training trip. The Huskies went 2-1 in South Carolina and now stand at 2-5 on the spring while the Bombers dip to 1-3 this spring.

UConn swept the doubles matches to open play with the lone close contest coming at No. 1 where Sho Sato (Tokyo, Japan) and Ben Scheuler (Arlington, Mass.) teamed up on a 9-8 victory. In singles action, Scheuler and Joey Michaels (Rochester Hills, Mich.) both recorded, 6-0, 6-0, shutout victories at No. 5 and No. 6 respectively. The best match of the day, and perhaps the season, came at No. 2 where Craig Helstowski (Shrewsbury, Mass.) edged Colin Flynn, 7-6, 6-7, 11-9.

The Huskies return to action on March 15 when they play host to Sacred Heart at 2:00 p.m.
