ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team ended its spring break trip on a positive note with a 7-0 victory over Robert Morris on Thursday. The Huskies won all three of their matches in Florida and improve to a 6-2 spring record.
The win at No. 2 from Andrew Marcus (Potomac, Md.) and Scott Warden (Boardman, Ohio) highlighted UConn's dominance in doubles play. Marcus and Warden combined for an 8-0 victory over Sean Curley and Aaron Haas.
Tom Cook (Pittsford, N.Y.) and Matthew Burns (Middletown, N.Y.) stepped into the lineup for the Huskies, winning an 8-3 decision from the third doubles spot. Joe Goldstein (Tucson, Ariz.) and Ben Schueler (Arlington, Mass.) continued their winning ways with an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles.
Goldstein took home his first win from the first singles spot against the Colonials while Marcus continued his success at No. 2. Marcus won in a pair of 6-3 sets over Igor Neves in the second spot.
Joey Michaels (Rochester Hills, Mich.) won a tiebreaker battle in the first set before winning the final 6-3 to win at No. 3 singles. Warden earned a 6-3, 6-2 decision from No. 5. Dave Adams (Andover, Mass.) cruised to a two-set victory in fifth singles. Ricardo Cardona (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) made his first appearance in the singles lineup in Florida and came away with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
"I am very pleased with our three wins here on our spring training trip," head coach Glenn Marshall. "The boys are playing extremely well, and this trip has increased our confidence level a great deal."
The Huskies host their first BIG EAST opponent, Georgetown, on March 21 at 11 a.m. at the University of Connecticut Tennis Courts.
