    FAIRFIELD, Conn. (March 29, 2005) - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team was defeated by in-state rival Fairfield on Tuesday afternoon in Fairfield, Conn. The loss drops UConn to an even 3-3 this spring while the Stags move to 7-5.

    Junior Matt Stinson (Orinda, Calif.) started strong for the Huskies, as he toughed out a three-set victory at No. 1 singles, defeating Jonathan Fernando 6-3, 0-6, 7-6 (5). UConn then dropped No. 2-4 matches as freshman Christian Malerba (Derby, Conn.) picked up the other Husky point at No. 5, topping Paul Goldbeck, 6-2, 6-1. Freshman Go Kamiyama lost a difficult No. 6 match, falling 7-6 (9), 7-6 (2) to Fairfield's George Casalicchio.

    The Stags then swept through the doubles side, winning all three sets for the point.

    Connecticut's men's tennis team will next play Georgetown on April 2. The match opens the Huskies' home season and will begin at 12:00 p.m.
