2014 Fall Men's Tennis Schedule
STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men's tennis team will open the 2014 fall portion of their schedule next weekend, September 5th and 6th, playing in the Stony Brook University Invitational. The Huskies have six tournaments and four dual matches scheduled for this fall as they prepare for their second season of play in the American Athletic Conference this spring.
The Huskies will host their annual fall tournament on the University of Connecticut Tennis Courts on campus the weekend of September 26th through 28th. Last fall, the Huskies had an impressive showing in their home tournament, winning a pair of doubles flights and a singles flights. UConn will also take part in the Brown University Invitational (Sept. 12th-14th) and the Quinnipiac University Invitational (October 3rd-5th).
UConn will take on four regional opponents in dual match play this fall starting with a trip to West Hartford on September 17th to face the Hartford Hawks. The Huskies also venture to Siena College on September 19th and head downstate to battle Quinnipiac on October 9th. The lone home match of the fall is slated for Wednesday, September 24th when the Marist Red Foxes come to Storrs.
The fall rounds out with the annual ITA Regional Championship at the University of Pennsylvania from October 16th through 19th and the Connecticut State Championship on October 24th and 25th at Yale University.
Head Coach Michael Louis will have a trio of seniors ready to guide this year's squad in Wayne Harrell (East Hartford, Conn.), Jacob Spreyer (Denver, Colo.) and Joshua Palmer (Dalton, Pa.). Harrell played #1 singles for the Huskies last season and posted a 15-12 singles mark to lead the team. Harrell also piled up 17 doubles victories with Ryan Carr, the lone Husky lost to graduation coming into this season.
Spreyer, who captured the #2 singles flight title at last fall's UConn Invitational, finished the season with 15 doubles victories paired with rookie Christopher Toner (South Hamilton, Mass.). Toner collected 12 singles wins during his freshman campaign playing at the #2, #3 and #4 spots. Junior Andrew Ginzberg (Woodbridge, Conn.) finished with 12 singles victories last season as well.
