STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut men's tennis team took time to give back to the local community by participating in an after school program at Silver Lane Elementary School in East Hartford last week.
The Huskies took part in the program last Wednesday, November 20th at the elementary school. Members of the team spent time with students tutoring them with their homework and particpating during gym class. Team members also took time to conduct a question and answer session to answer student's questions about life as a student-athlete.
"Our responsibilities extend beyond the classroom and tennis court as a program," stated head coach Michael Louis. "It's important that we give back to the community any chance we get. We had an opportunity to spend an afternoon with a great group of students. Our players spent time helping the kids with their homework and playing games with them during gym time. The kids also had an opportunity to ask the players questions about tennis, college and their future careers. I think this was a great moment for the kids to get them thinking about their futures and college."
"This was a fun day for all of us and we definitely look forward to coming back to Silver lane Elementary."
