BOSTON, Mass.-The men’s track and field squad sits in fourth place following the conclusion of day one at the IC4A Championships on Saturday. The Huskies will continue the final meet before the NCAA Championships on Sunday.
Qualifying for Sunday’s mile final was junior Joe Clark (West Islip, N.Y.) who finished first overall in the prelims with a mark of 4:07.65. Also in the distance events, freshman Bryan Fowler (Tolland, Conn.) completed the 3,000m run in 8:23.89.
Sophomore Darnell Cummings (Millbrook, N.Y.) qualified for Sunday’s 200 meter dash finals after posting a time of 21.53 which was seventh overall.
Registering a 8.09, freshman Selwyn Maxwell (Monroe, N.Y.) completed the 60 meter hurdles sixth overall to reach the finals.
The Huskies were successful in the preliminaries of the 4x800 relay capturing first place in a time of 7:36.29. The relay team was compiled of Chris Dailey, Phil Caldwell, Paul DeSalvo and Tim Benantan Meanwhile, the DMR squad of James Agait, Kyle Twombly, Bennatan and Scott Johnson were fifth in 9:57.52.
On the field, senior captain Kyle Duggan (Staten Island, N.Y.) continued to lead the Huskies grabbing first place in the pole vault with a leap of 5.20m for 10 points towards Connecticut’s total count. Duggan's jump sits in first in the BIG EAST. Senior Matt Alexander (Tolland, Conn.) added four points with a fifth place finish (4.95m).
