ORLANDO, Fla.  – The University of Connecticut men’s track and field team opened its 2014 outdoor season at the Walt Disney World Track & Field Open this past weekend in Orlando, Fla. The team posted a fifth place finish out of the 15 competing teams, with Princeton University taking home the team win with a total of 217 points.

Senior Jesse Chapman competed in his first meet of the year, finishing with a marker of 4.30m in the same event.

Senior Eric Masington supplied another of UConn’s top finishes in the discus throw. Masington registered a hurl of 54.40m to take home the gold while also posting a second place finish in the shot put with a 16.30m heave. Matthew Graziano captured second place in the discus with a throw of 51.47m, while Chapman earned 12th with a 39.76m throw.

Brian Eilers provided UConn’s fourth athlete to top the podium, capturing the javelin throw with a 56.68m effort in his first meet of the season.

In the hammer throw, Oluwatosin Edwards earned a second place finish with a throw of 51.90m. Masington also competed in this event, taking fifth place with a 41.80m result.
