Storrs, Conn.- UConn’s Jesse Chapman was the huskies top finisher, second overall, after the two days of competition at the UConn Decathlon which concluded Friday afternoon. Chapman was able to place in the top three in seven out of the ten events, and accumulated a score of 6,969 overall.
Chapman finished third in the 110m high hurdles with a time of 15.30. He was also able to clinch the top spot in discus throwing a distance of 46.06m. From there he finished second in both the pole vault and javelin, with a height of 4.27m and a distance of 51.02m, respectively. He ended the competition finishing sixth in the 1,500m with a time of 5:03.47.
Sam Smith was able to place third overall with a final point total of 6,866. Smith ran a 15.74 in the 110m high hurdles, threw 43.17m in discus for second place, cleared a height of 4.07m in the pole vault for third place, grabbed the top spot in javelin, throwing 58.91m and finished the competition with a 5:04.08 for seventh place in the 1500m. His final point total was 6866.
Ben Waruch and Sean Walsh finished sixth and seventh, respectively, with point totals of 6,321 and 6,279. Waruch started Friday’s events with a second place finish in the 110m high hurdles with a time of 15.19, while Walsh finished the competition with a first place finish in the 1500m, running it in a time of 4:28.07.
The Huskies remain at home when they host Albany in the Dog Fight on Saturday with events beginning at 10:00 a.m.
