    STORRS, Conn.- The UConn men’s track and field team hosted its third annual “Dog Fight” for the Huskies final home meet of the 2012 campaign. Connecticut had an excellent outing as they concluded the afternoon with 105 points to defeat Albany who tallied 92 points.

    Taking the first two seats in to the shot put was senior captain Mike Alleman in first place with a toss of 16.95m and Eric Masington in second place following a throw of 16.24m. Masington added another silver to his name on the afternoon with a throw of 49.79m in the discus for second place, while Alleman was third (48.52m), Justin Siekierski finished fourth (46.12m) and Josh Faoyede took fifth (45.90m).

    Connecticut continued to master the throwing events as Faboyede claimed first in the hammer with a hurl of 57.76m and Chris Ackell finished second with a throw of 53.23m. The Huskies held the top three spots in the javelin with senior Eric Alfiere taking first (64.49m), freshman Brian Eilers finishing second (61.82m) and Siekierski finishing third (57.72m).

    Sophomore Claudio DelliCarpini and freshman Amanze Williams grabbed second (6.86m) and third (6.72m) in the long jump, respectively. Williams went on to take second in the triple jump with a BIG EAST automatic qualifying mark of 14.10m. Finishing ahead of Williams in the triple jump was freshman Treval Hatcher who tallied a first place finish with a leap of 14.69m.

    Noel James was just .01 meters behind Albany’s first place jumper in the high jump as he concluded the event in second place with a leap of 2.08, while freshman Toby Belton was third with a jump of 1.98m.


     

     

    The Huskies captured the top three seats in the pole vault with the Duggan brothers finishing first and second. Kyle Duggan posted a 5.05m vault for first place, Cory Duggan was second with a jump of 4.80m and senior Zach Meverden was third with a 4.65m leap.

    Connecticut’s 4x100 meter relay squad (Darnell Cummings, Jesse Drinks, Kevin Smith and Kevin Steinberg) was able to out run Albany for a New England qualifying mark of 40.52. The Husky 4x400m relay team of Paul DeSalvo, Phil Caldwell, Tyler Hopson and Kyle Twombly concluded the race second in 3:24.11.

    Junior Nick Aguila was the lone Husky competing in the 3,000m steeplechase and left with the crown after completing the race in 9:20.46.

    Selwyn Maxwell and DelliCarpini notched a first (14.35) and second (14.35) place conclusion in the 110m hurdles, respectively. Continuing the Husky success was Drinks and Cummings taking first (10.64) and second (10.68) in the 100 meter dash.

    Senior Scott Johnson finished second in the 1,500 meter run in 3:54.97 for his final race at George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex and was followed by freshman James Agati who was fourth (4:01.08).

    In the 400m dash senior Tyler Hopson concluded the race in 48.61 for second place, while sophomore Paul DeSalvo qualified for New Englands in the 800m (1:54.07). Kevin Steinberg and Kevin Smith were third (22.00) and fourth (22.14) in the 200m dash, respectively.

    Sophomore Ryan McGuire was second in the 5,000m run after crossing the finish line in 15:01.03.

    The Huskies will continue the 2012 outdoor campaign on Saturday, April 21 at the Larry Ellis Invite in Princeton, N.J.
