STORRS, Conn.- After leaving the 2012 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship with a silver medal in the decathlon, junior Ben Waruch (Kerhonkson, N.Y.) leads the Huskies after day one of the IC4A decathlon with 3,595 points. Waruch was second (11.42) in the 100m dash, grabbed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 6.33m, finished second (13.13m) in the shot put, was in a four-way tie for fourth (1.86m) in the high jump and captured second place in the 400m run after posting a time of 50.60.
Also in the decathlon, senior Kyle Rowbotham (Scotch Plains, N.J.) tallied 3,215 points and Sam Smith (Slingerlands, N.Y.) concluded day one with 3,216 points. Rowbotham had two top-five finishes taking fifth (11.66) in the 100m dash and fourth (12.12m) in the shot put, while Smith notched a third place finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.89m.
The Huskies will continue the IC4A Championships on Saturday, May 12 with events starting at 9 a.m. with the last event beginning approximately at 6 p.m.
