UConn's 4x100m relay finishes second at IC4A Championships

PRINCETON, N.J.-The University of Connecticut men’s track and field squad concluded the IC4A Championships tied for eighth place with 31 points. UConn, who entered the final day in first place with 30 points, had its 4x100m relay team register its best performance on Sunday as they ended the day in second.
The 4x100 meter relay squad (Steinberg, Smith, Cummings and Drinks) tallied eight points for the Huskies when they crossed the finish line in 40.33 for a silver medal.
Also on Sunday, senior Mike Alleman earned the Huskies one point in the shot put with his toss of 16.67m which was eighth in the finals.
In the first two days of the IC4A Championships the Huskies had great success with several athletes recording impressive marks.
Junior Ben Waruch (Kerhonkson, N.Y.) notched six points for Connecticut after earning third place in the decathlon with 6,478 points. Waruch’s best performance of the day came in a third place finish in the 110m hurdles in a time of 15.78.
The Huskies had a great showing in Saturday’s field events with freshman Amanze Williams (New Haven, Conn.) guiding the way grabbing a second place (7.63m) mark in the long jump for eight points towards the Husky total.
The Duggan pole vaulting duo totaled six points for UConn with Kyle capturing fourth place with a leap of 5.08m and Cory finishing eighth (4.93m).
Sophomore Eric Masington (Trevose, Pa.) earned his squad five points with a fourth place finish in the discus after a hurl of 51.66m, while freshman Chris Ackell (Brookfield, Conn.) finished seventh (55.23m) in the hammer for two points.
