Eric Masington took sixth in the shot put for the third time in his career

May 18, 2014

PRINCETON, N.J. – UConn men’s track and field finished in second place at the 2014 IC4A Championships, which concluded Sunday at Princeton University. The squad finished with 41.75 total points behind first place Pittsburgh (51) in the 57-team meet.

The Huskies have now posted consecutive second place finishes after also being the runner-up at the 2014 IC4A Indoor Championship in March.

Jesse Chapman and Craig Hunter’s top finishes on Saturday accounted for UConn’s gold medal finishes on the weekend, while Sam Smith’s second place finish in the decathlon supplied Connecticut’s lone second place finish.

After taking home third in the discus throw yesterday, Eric Masington returned to the field today to compete in the shot put. His heave of 17.34m (56-10.75) was good for sixth place, which marks the third time in his career the senior has taken home sixth place at the IC4A Championship.

Tobey Belton and Robert Rhodes posted a pair of seventh place finishes to pace the Huskies. Belton cleared 2.04m (6-08.25) in the high jump to claim seventh while Rhodes crossed the line at the 1:55.62 mark in the 800m run finals. Sean Walsh’s seventh place finish with 6,107 points in yesterday’s decathlon gives UConn three seventh-place finishes on the weekend.

Harley Lacroix and John Landis finished the weekend in 11th and 15th places, respectively, in the long jump. Lacroix also paced the effort tin the triple jump with a distance of 14.07m (46-2.00), while Landis finished just behind him at 13.97m (45-10.00).

Michael O’Donnell, who qualified for the 1,500m finals yesterday afternoon, posted a time of 3:53.55 to take ninth place in the event.

On Thursday (May 22) the NCAA will officially announce which individuals will be selected to compete at the 2014 NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Florida from May 29-31. A complete event schedule for the event can be found HERE.
