JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The Huskies saw Claudio DelliCarpini (West Harrison, N.Y.) lead the way at Hodges Stadium during the second day of the 2012 Outdoor NCAA Championships First Round. The sophomore was the only athlete from Connecticut to qualify for Saturday’s quarterfinals as he crossed the finish line 22nd (13.98) in the 110m hurdles.
The top 12 of each event will advance to the Championships in Des Moines, Iowa on June 6.
Joining DelliCarpini on the track for the 110m hurdles was fellow underclassman Selwyn Maxwell (Monroe, N.Y.) who ended the event 40th in 14.26.
In the 200 meter dash sophomore Darnell Cummings (Millbrook, N.Y.) ended the race 43rd as he posted a time of 21.73.
Josh Faboyede (Providence, R.I.) was the lone Husky competing in a field event on Friday for Connecticut. The junior finished 30th in the hammer with a toss of 57.04 meters (187-1).
The Huskies will have three standout athletes compete in as many field events on Saturday as Kyle Duggan will compete in the pole vault on Saturday morning at 11 a.m., Noel James in the high jump at 5 p.m. and Mike Alleman in the shot put at 5 p.m. On the track, the 4x100 meter relay squad will race at 6 p.m. and DelliCarpini will compete in the quarterfinals of the 110m hurdles at 7 p.m.
