GREENSBORO, N.C.- The UConn men’s track and field team had six Huskies compete in seven events at this weekend’s East Regionals at North Carolina A&M in Greensboro, N.C. Despite a successful outing, Connecticut did not have any Huskies register qualifying marks for the NCAA Championships. Prior to the weekend, Jess Chapman (East Thetford, Vt.) had already secured a trip to Eugene to compete in the decathlon on June 5-8.
Junior Eric Masington (Trevose, Pa.) was the lone Husky to partake in more than one event as he competed in the discus and the shot put. Masington finished 16th in the discus with a hurl of 53.22m (174-07), while committing a foul in the shot.
Connecticut had two Huskies throw in Saturday’s hammer with Josh Faboyede (Providence, R.I.) leading the way with a 59.61m (195-07) throw for 15th place, while Chris Ackell (Brookfield, Conn.) concluded his sophomore season with a 56.38m (185-00) toss for 30th.
Rounding out UConn’s field performers was Cory Duggan (Staten Island, N.Y.) who cleared a mark of 5.15m (16-10.75) in the pole vault for 16th place.
On the track, Selwyn Maxwell (Monroe, N.Y.) ran a 14.06 in Friday’s first round of the 110 meter hurdles which advanced him to Saturday’s quarterfinals. The sophomore sprinter ended the season with a 22nd place finish in Saturday’s race as he crossed the finish line in 17.37. Lastly, senior Jesse Drinks (Ossinging, N.Y.) recorded a time of 10.55 in Thursday’s 100 meter dash finishing in 40th place.
