EUGENE, Ore.- UConn men’s track and field junior Jesse Chapman concluded the decathlon at the NCAA Championships on Thursday evening at Oregon’s Hayward Field. The East Thetford, Vt. native finished 20th after notching 7,054 points in the multi-event. Chapman was able to jump two spots throughout his final events after concluding day one sitting in 22nd.
Chapman excelled in the throwing events where he posted his top finishes with a fourth place (14.41m) finish in the shot put and took fifth (46.29m) in the discus, while finishing 16th in the javelin with a throw of 51.39m.
On Wednesday, Chapman opened the day crossing the finish line in 11.59 in the 100m dash followed by a leap of 6.61 meters in the long jump. In the last events of the day Chapman posted a leap of 1.84 meters in the high jump and ran the 400m in 54.16.
He concluded his first trip the NCAA Championships on Thursday where he ran the 110 meter hurdles in 15.29 and the 1,500 meter run in 4:52.84. In the pole vault, Chapman finished 18th with a leap of 4.40m.
