STORRS, Conn . – The University of Connecticut men’s track and field program opens its 2014 Indoor schedule at the 32nd Yale Invitational tomorrow in New Haven. Last year’s meet featured regional teams including Brown, Fordham, Sacred Heart, SCSU, UMass-Amherst and Williams. The first events begin at 9:00AM with the men’s and women’s weight throw. The day concludes around 5:20 with the 4x400m relays. For a complete schedule of events, click here.

In last season’s Yale Invite, UConn claimed six first-place finishes in the 60m hurdles, 4x400, 4x800, 4,000 distance medley, high jump, and pole vault.

The men enter the 2014 Indoor season after an excellent showing in the spring of 2013 to win the program’s 13th BIG EAST Title. Top returners and leaders for the Huskies include team captains Sam Smith, Cory Duggan, Sean Walsh, Eric Masington, and Darnell Cummings. Duggan, a pole vaulter, helped pace the Huskies last season with a pair of second-place finishes at the IC4A Championships and the outdoor BIG EAST Championship. Duggan set a new record at the New England Championships with a 5.11m leap to earn the gold.

Cummings sprinted to a first place finish in the 2013 BIG EAST Indoor Championships in the 60 m dash. Walsh, a heptathlon and decathlon competitor, and Masington, who placed second at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships in the shot put, will also undoubtedly post big contributions this season.
